Stephen Hawking School, Tower Hamlets, 2006-2009. This has become my favourite playscape as we have got to know the staff and young people who use the play areas. The school caters for children with profound and multiple learning difficulties and severe learning difficulties, so the aim was to make sure all the young people were able to take part in play opportunities at playtime. This has been achieved not only in the junior playground (photo above) but also in the infants and pre-school play settings. The grounds include wheelchair user-friendly see-saws, swings, ball pit and ramps looking over the canal. Please note in References the article written by Diana Howard, the children’s Occupational Therapist. |
